EMS

Serving our community since 2020

Vernon Township Fire Department's Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Division has been serving the community since its inception on January 1st, 2020. Our ALS ambulance is currently staffed with a Paramedic and EMT/AEMT from Station 431. Dr. Stephanie Gardner oversees all EMS professionals as the Hancock County Medical Director.

Vernon Township Fire Department provides both ALS and BLS care to the community. We are dedicated to high levels of training with both simulation and web based equipment. We strive to be both highly educated and compassionate when caring for our community.

A Safe Haven Baby Box is located on the side of our Station 431. A Safe Haven Baby Box is a safety device provided for under state’s Safe Haven Law and legally permits a mother in crisis to safely, securely, and anonymously surrender if they are unable to care for their newborn. A Safe Haven Baby Box is installed in an exterior wall of a designated fire station or hospital. It has an exterior door that automatically locks upon placement of a newborn inside the Baby Box, and an interior door that allows a medical staff member to secure the surrendered newborn from inside the designated building. The Safe Haven Baby Box organization staffs a 24-hour hotline (1-866-99BABY1) to give women the opportunity to talk to a trained professional as they consider safely surrendering their baby.

CPR classes are offered quarterly to the community due to our recent awardment of the Indiana Department of Homeland Security Foundation Grant. New CPR equipment was purchased at the beginning of 2021. Funding for the Indiana Homeland Security Foundation comes from revenue from "Secure Indiana" license plate sales. The foundation provides financial support for critical public safety needs across Indiana. The revenue from First Responders license plate sales funds the Indiana Homeland Security Foundation. The next time you renew your vehicle's plate, ask for a First Responders license plate, donate or purchase one online.
