Station 438 - 7580 Form Street in McCordsville
Located at 7580 Form Street in McCordsville, Station 438 was previously known as McCordsville Station 8. Built in the 1960s, the building was home to the volunteer firefighters that protected McCordsville and surrounding areas for decades. Station 438 is temporary housing for Station 432 apparatus until their new quarters are built. There is a modular home next to the station where on-duty crews sleep, thus providing 24/7 staffing. The station will become the home of the Fire Corps providing support to VTFD through incident rehabilitation for firefighters and other non-hazard zone functions.
The Vernon Township Fire Territory is excited to announce the formation of the VTFT Fire Corps. The Fire Corps is part of VTFT and is open to anyone that wants to be a part of the fire department as an interested citizen.
The VTFD Fire Corps is a volunteer organization allowing interested citizens to contribute time and energy to assist the Vernon Township Fire Territory personnel, and other first responders in Hancock County to more effectively serve the community.
Fire Corps members will provide support to first responders and to the community by performing rehab for firefighters, public relations, traffic control, educational activities and other functions as required at emergency incidents and department functions.
Monthly meetings, training activities, new member orientation and other routine activities will be organized and led by members of the fire corps leadership team. Leadership team members will be appointed from within the general membership of the fire corps by the department from time to time, as deemed necessary.
The Fire Corps organization and its members shall be under the administrative supervision of the Vernon Township Fire Department Fire Corps Captain and/or Fire Corps Lieutenants.
